Many, if not all students on an Outward Bound course experience a challenging moment and have to overcome it to continue. It could be eating new foods, being homesick, or, like Curtavia, they could be afraid of heights.
Curtavia, a junior at Envision High School in Oakland, CA and Summer Search scholarship recipient, completed a two week backpacking and rock climbing course with Outward Bound California in the High Sierras. During her course, she overcame many obstacles, namely having to climb rocks in spite of her fear of heights. She was willing to share the story of her reaching the top in this video.
